SkyQuant SD — Privacy Policy

Effective September 26, 2026

SkyQuant SD collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you do in the app is reported anywhere.

What the app does not do

Settings stored on your device

Your preferences — the radar source and ocean layer you chose, whether the satellite, buoy and wildlife layers are on, your home beach, and a server address if you entered one — are saved on your device using the system preferences store (iOS UserDefaults). The home-beach feature also remembers, on the device, the last beach status and sample date it saw, so that it can tell a change from a first look. All of it stays on the device, is covered by your device's own backup and encryption, and is removed when you delete the app. None of it is uploaded.

Environmental data the app fetches

To draw the map, the app requests publicly displayed environmental data over HTTPS from its operator's weather-data server: satellite imagery, weather radar frames, nearshore ocean wave-height model output, NOAA ocean buoy observations (wave height, water temperature and wind), beach water-quality status, river and plume model output, tide predictions and water levels for San Diego Bay, and National Weather Service alerts. Tide and buoy data are NOAA's, relayed by that same server — the app does not contact NOAA itself. These requests carry no personal information and no identifier for you or your device — just the name of the data being asked for.

As with any request to any web server, that server transiently sees standard connection metadata, including the IP address the request came from. It is not used to identify users, is not associated with any account or profile (there are none), is not combined with other data to build a profile, and is not sold or shared with third parties.

Notifications

Home-beach notifications are generated locally on your device. No push service, no device token and no server-side subscription list is involved: the app checks the water-quality data itself — while it is open, and during the background refreshes iOS grants it — and posts a local notification when your chosen beach's status or newest bacteria sample changes. Nobody is told which beach you picked; the choice is stored only on your device.

No selling or sharing

No data is sold, rented, traded or shared with third parties, for advertising or for anything else. There is no data to sell.

Children's privacy

The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Because nothing is collected, nothing about a child is stored, used or disclosed.
